This pair of wardrobes was made for a guesthouse on the JSW Campus in Toranagallu, Karnataka. The original concept for the wardrobe was in sheet metal. I was tasked with redesigning them to be made in solid wood. The challenge here was to ensure that the structure would be sturdy and light weight as it was suspended above the ground. The curved shutter was cantilevered from the main carcass and had to be designed in a way that would prevent any future warping.Hence, an aluminium framework was used as a skeleton which was then clad with plywood with a teak veneer coating to make it light-weight and contribute to the desired aesthetic. Solid reclaimed teak was used to make the interior drawers, shelves and hangers. One of the ward-robes had a chiseled wood finish while the other had a slatted finish made with solid wood.
